Three Fundamental Ideas about Books
Why You Should Read Children's Books as an Adult

Tax Break for Books

I enjoyed Linwood Barclay's column in yesterday's Toronto Star. Responding to a Canadian tax break for children's physical activities, Mr. Barclay proposed an additional tax break for any money spent on books or other printed material. The idea being to make Canada more of a country that encourages reading, especially in children. Now, I don't know that something like this would be feasible in the U.S. (or in Canada, for that matter), but I think that it's a great idea nevertheless. Incidentally, Linwood Barclay has written a couple of mysteries: Bad Move and Bad Guys. I haven't read them yet, but they are now at the top of my list.
