I just got back from a long weekend away from the computer, and was thrilled to learn that my blog was shortlisted for Best Kidlit Blog in the 2009 Book Blogger Appreciation Week. I'm even more thrilled to be in such excellent company. The other four nominees for Best Kidlit Blog are A Fuse #8 Production, Seven Impossible Things Before Breakfast, Maw Books, and Shelf Elf: read, write, rave. I'll tell you - I'm not even sure who to vote for. (But I hope you'll all vote for someone, and support the process.)
Many thanks to the people who nominated me and selected my blog for the shortlist. And extra thanks to everyone who helped spread the word about BBAW in the Kidlitosphere this year. I'm very happy to see children's and young adult book blogs represented in a variety of other categories (in addition to the obvious category of Best YA Blog. It's feels like we're much more integrated with the larger blogging community this year than we were this time last year, and I think that's a good thing.
To name just a few, we have: 100 Scope Notes for Best General Review Blog; I'm Here, I'm Queer What the Hell Do I Read? and YA Fabulous for Best GLBT Review Blog; Book Dads and Guys Lit Wire for Best Special Interest Blog; My Friend Amy and Semicolon for Best Spiritual/Inspirational or Religious Book Review Blog; Becky's Book Reviews for Best Design; Presenting Lenore for Most Eclectic Taste (this one cracks me up, because her book taste is so similar to my own); 5 Minutes for Books for Best Book Club Blog; MotherReader for Best Challenge Host; Chasing Ray and Collecting Children's Books for Best Writing; The Story Siren for Most Extravagant Giveaways; and Angieville and Hey Lady Whatcha' Readin' for Most Chatty. Natasha from Maw Books and Amy from My Friend Amy (the founder of BBAW) are everywhere on the short lists (just as they are both everywhere commenting on and twittering about other blogs every week).
You can see the complete set of short lists, and cast your votes, here. Near the bottom of the post is a set of links to all of the blogs. This is a great source for finding new blogs - I still have blogs I follow now, after finding them last year through BBAW. Voting closes Saturday, September 12th at 11:59 PM EST, and Book Blogger Appreciation Week runs from September 14th to 18th. I hope that you'll all check it out! And thanks again to those who nominated my blog, and to the people who nominated Booklights in several categories (though we did not, alas, make any shortlists). This is a nice way to start back up after a vacation.
