Thank you for telling us about Andrea, Jen. I don't really know her well at all; we've just tweeted back and forth a couple of times. But I will be thinking of her, and wishing her family well.

Thank you for all of the other updates too.

adrienne

Lucas and I do often walk to school, but today was terribly rainy and windy, so we did not. I'll have to tell him we missed a holiday. Nine times out of ten when we walk to school, we talk about books.

Liz B

Thanks for the links!

And I want to point out two more links about the FTC/book bloggers. Dear Author also spoke with the FTC; while I still think the FTC doesn't understand either book blogging or professional book reviewing, "all" book bloggers need to do is have a disclosure statement. See: this and this.

Jen Robinson

You are always welcome, Dawn!

Adrienne, I love that you and Lucas walk to school together and talk about books.

And Liz, thanks for those links (I edited your comment to make them clickable). I think there's a lot more to be said about all of this, and I'll be staying tuned.

Doret

I hopefully the FTC will not go through with this.

I love the new voting set up at Cybils. It cut out all the chatter.

Salads great but sometimes you just want the entree.

Jen Robinson

Oh, this FTC thing is a done deal, Doret. I think the best we can hope for is some enforcement guidelines that make some amount of sense regarding book blogging.

Glad you like the Cybils form. that Sheila Ruth is an amazing asset to the Cybils, that's for sure!

Liz B

Objectively speaking? I think the FTC has to do something. I agree -- blogs that are just corporate blogs but don't say they are, etc. need to be cracked down on. Celebrities who tweet about a new camera without saying they tweeted because the company paid them to.

Reading the guidelines, they don't even mention books -- half this hot mess is the series of interviews Cleland has done which show that he doesn't get how book reviewing works, either in traditional print media or in blogging, and the idea of someone creating rules and standards about something they don't really know scares me.

Jen Robinson

It scares me, too, Liz. I'm really thinking about not accepting review copies anymore. But it seems like such a drastic solution, one that hurts my blog readers, since I would end up reviewing a narrower range of books... I'm waiting to see what happens next.

Rasco from RIF

Thanks for mentioning our Laurel Snyder visit at RIF and the series I am instituting....we had such a good time and would love to hear from kid lit authors/illustrators/bloggers living in the area or from those who will be passing through the DC area!
