Thanks so much for the great shout out.

Loved the two minute video posted by Horizons National, the summer achievement gap is something of enormous concern - thanks for bringing attention to it.

BTW, I am still flabbergasted how you managed to complete the MotherReader's 6th Annual 48 Hour Book Challenge, coupled with so many great posts!

Congratulations Jen!

You are welcome, Read Aloud Dad. Thanks for the feedback! As for the 48 Hour Book Challenge, well, it was a nice treat to be able to do it. Spouse and babysitter both helped a lot. The only problem now is that I want to read all the time...

Great roundup as usual, Jen!

The concern I have about college graduation isn't about numbers as much as quality of graduates -- I'd rather we not push kids through high school and college just to get numbers which is what I've been seeing. My mom, a former AP High School teacher and Ph.D., now teaches at a university and has the most horrifying stories of students who aren't performing at basic middle school levels. We can't dumb down standards to get graduates. Which I know you know, I just had to rant for a second.

Also, for summer learning, we're really enjoying Tales2Go audio books for my active girls. They can run around and listen at the same time. I hope more people get on the audio book trend - just because it's so portable. I hope that by sharing these resources on Imagination Soup.net, I'm encouraging parents to continue the learning in fun and manageable ways.

Cheers,

Melissa
