I learned of yet another children's book award this week (from a link on the Horn Book blog, Read Roger). The E. B. White Read Aloud Award is a relatively new award (started in 2004), given by the Association of Booksellers for Children (ABC). The award "honors a book that reflects the universal read aloud standards that were created by the work of the author E.B White in his classic books for children: Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, and The Trumpet of the Swan."
- The Winner of the 2006 Award For Picture Books is If I Built a Car, by Chris Van Dusen ($15.99 Penguin Young Readers Group).
- The Winner of the 2006 Award For Older Readers is Each Little Bird That Sings, by Deborah Wiles ($16.00 Harcourt Children's Books).
These are a couple of new recommendations for your child's bookshelf. And just in time for national Drop Everything And Read day (D.E.A.R. day), which is being April 12th, in honor of Beverly Cleary's 90th birthday. Happy Birthday Ms. Cleary! And happy reading to all.
